Welcome to Animal Data Lab. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Animal Data Lab website and application (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, uploading data, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who We Are

Animal Data Lab unites animal health data from people and researchers around the world to build a trusted resource for science. Our mission is simple: share data, save lives.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be able to form a binding agreement to use the Service. When you register, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.

3. Your Contributions

You may upload animal health data and related information to the Service. You represent that you have the right to share any data you contribute and that doing so does not violate the rights of others or any applicable law. You retain control over the information you choose to provide, as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. How Your Data Is Used

Data you contribute is used to support animal data research and, where you have opted in, to communicate with you about the project you contributed to. We will not store or use your data for any purpose that is not directly relevant to our animal data research projects. We do not sell or trade your personal information. Our full commitments around use, security, third-party sharing, and retention are set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

5. Sharing With AI Models

To advance our research mission, you acknowledge and agree that data you contribute may be used to train, fine-tune, evaluate, and operate artificial intelligence and machine learning models. This includes:

  • Private models: Models developed, hosted, or controlled by Animal Data Lab or our verified research partners.
  • Public models: Third-party or publicly accessible models and AI services, which may process your data on external infrastructure outside of Animal Data Lab's direct control.

Wherever practical, data shared with AI models is anonymized or de-identified before processing. By contributing data, you consent to this use as part of our work to unlock insights that no single dataset could reveal on its own.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, you will not:

  • Upload data you do not have the right to share, or data that is unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
  • Use the Service to identify individuals from anonymized or de-identified datasets.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, and content (excluding data you contribute), is owned by Animal Data Lab and protected by applicable laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." While we employ industry-standard precautions to safeguard data, no system is completely secure, and we do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. The Service is intended to support research and does not constitute veterinary or medical advice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Animal Data Lab will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
