At Animal Data Lab, our mission to advance animal welfare through data-driven research relies on the trust and contribution of people like you. This policy outlines how we handle the information you provide and our commitment to keeping it secure. It is the same policy you review and acknowledge when you first sign in to the Animal Data Lab application.

1. Willful Disclosure and Consent

By using this website and submitting information through our forms, surveys, or portals, you acknowledge that you are sharing your data willfully and voluntarily. We do not collect personal identifiers without your explicit input. You remain in control of the information you choose to provide, understanding that this data is contributed specifically to support our ongoing research initiatives. By proceeding, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these rules.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data isn't a commodity to us; it's a contribution to science. We strictly limit the storage and processing of your information to the following:

  • Animal Data Research: Analytical studies aimed at improving animal health, behavior tracking, or conservation efforts.
  • Internal Communication: Reaching out to you regarding the specific project you contributed to (if you opted in).

The Golden Rule: Animal Data Lab will not store or use your data for any purpose that is not directly relevant to our animal data research projects.

3. Data Protection and Security

We take the security of your information seriously. While no system is 100% "hack-proof," we employ industry-standard physical, electronic, and managerial precautions to safeguard your data. These include:

  • Encrypted data transmission (SSL/TLS).
  • Restricted access protocols for research staff.
  • Anonymization of datasets whenever possible to protect individual privacy.

4. Third-Party Sharing

We have a strict policy against the sale or trade of your personal information. We do not share your data with outside corporations, marketers, or third parties unless they are verified research partners bound by the same confidentiality agreements, and only when it is essential to the success of the animal research project.

5. Data Retention

We only keep your information as long as it is scientifically relevant. Once a research project concludes or the data is no longer necessary for longitudinal study, we perform secure deletion or permanent de-identification of the records.

If you would like to request the removal of your data or have questions about how your specific contribution is being used, please contact our Data Privacy Team at support@animaldatalab.org.
